About
Dr. Jacoba Johnson

Since I was young I’ve been deeply curious about human nature and consciousness, asking questions such as how does the language we use affect our behavior? What does it mean to make more 'conscious' decisions? Who is happy and why? Why are relationships often so complicated, and why can it be difficult to get the love you want?

My questions eventually led me to graduate school and to a PhD program in Clinical Developmental Psychology at Bryn Mawr College. There I was introduced to foundational research on early attachment, conditioned behavior, studies on nurture vs. nature, predictors of happiness, trauma, and the latest work on brain functioning.
I received my B.A. from Brown University and Ph.D. in Clinical Developmental Psychology from Bryn Mawr College. I completed my internship and post-doctoral training at the Swarthmore College Counseling and Psychological Services Center. My training also included working at the Villanova University Counseling Center, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic Social Service’s Saint Gabriel’s System for Court-Adjudicated Youth, and the Upper Darby School District as a certified school psychologist.
